The Gundam Beauty Pageant|
20. Zako Zako Hour!
Shute, Rele, and Genkimaru were onstage already when the curtains opened, the regular Zakos falling into the audience unconscious. "Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Zako Zako Hour!" said Shute.
Rele announced, "The Most Talented Competition is just around the corner, and the contestants are already itching to go."
Shute and Rele were staring at Genkimaru, waiting for his line. Genki was lost in thought, tapping his chin with the microphone.
"I wonder what's bugging Hanako-san."
Shute and Rele both cocked their heads, growing question marks within a few seconds. "Yeah, I wonder."
Hanako appeared on the screen, Genkimaru pointing out key points on the screen. "I'm worried about Hanako-san. She's done nothing but worry and hold her chest the entire time she's been here."
Rele scratched her ead. "Maybe something's wrong with her heart."
Shute stepped in to get a closer look. "Maybe she's just worried about something."
"I'm gonna go find out!"
Genkimaru disappeared from the stage in (what Shute and Rele hoped was) a puff of smoke. The two older ones gave eachother a weak smile and continued.
"The contestants will each go through a gauntlet specifically designed to their abilities," Rele mentioned. "The one who best displays their talents will win the round."
Shute bumped Rele away from the camera. "We interviewed Charon the Sabercat, the designer of the gauntlets, to get some inside info."
"Well, it took a long time to come up with the gauntlets." Charon scratched the back of her neck. "I got the inspiration from the soundtrack for a stage show in Branson, Missouri."
Rele looked a little confused. "Uh... sure."
Shute also looked a little confused. "That's it."
Rele fiddled with her ear, her pompous nature kicking in. "She didn't have anything bettter to say."
The screen fizzled for three seconds, making the microphone's squeal, but soon Genkimaru was on the air, sitting on Hanako's shoulder. "I've found her! Hanako-san, what's your problem?"
The purple one was at a loss for words. She tightened the grip on her chest.
"All right, you, get off!" Bakunetsumaru, followed by Aneko, snatched Genki off of his sister. "You respect your elders!"
"Don't say 'elders', Baka-kun!" Aneko hit Baku on the back of the head. "You make her sound old!"
Cobramaru and Hoshiko walked past, holding eachother tightly. Genki noticed Hoshiko and pointed the microphone at her. "Hey, Hoshiko-san! What's your sister's problem?"
Hoshiko's eyes flashed with shock, and she quickly stood behind Cobramaru. The ninja gave Genkimaru a glare. "Quiet, Genkimaru, we're going for a walk."
Bakunetsumaru's mother suddenly popped out of nowhere, hitting Cobramaru with a fan. She (her name was Koko) was a short little thing, but was fatter than Britainmaru. Her armor was mostly white, with gold and silver fringes so light they were hard to notice. She had an odd-shaped helmet; it resembled a bunch of hair in a bun, including the spikes to hold it in place.
"You lie!" (Koko had an unbelievably thick accent.) "There no place to walk! I know, I tried! I know what you up to, hentai!"
Hanako saw her chance, the entire family in the same room! "Everyone, can I please tell you something?"
The family grew very quiet except for Koko tapping her foot. Genkimaru's smile grew. "Straight from the source..."
They all leaned in a little farther (Cobramaru just turned his head, bored).
She patted her chest, directly under her soulstone. "I'm gonna have a baby."
Genkimaru slapped his head. "Oh, yeah! Why didn't I see that?"
Then he couldn't hear anything. The siblings were all screaming too loud.
"OH, I CAN'T BELIEVE IT!"
"MY BABY HAVING A BABY!"
Baku, Aneko, and Hoshiko all circled Hanako, cutting Koko off from her. Hoshiko hugged her sister and teared up, choking back her sobs. Baku grabbed her hands after throwing Genkimaru over his head. "When are you having it?"
Aneko hit him again. "Don't call it an it! Have you been to a fortune teller yet?"
"Boy or girl? Boy or girl?!"
Cobramaru chuckled from the sidelines. It was such a silly sight, all the siblings packed together in a tight little huddle, with the mother bouncing around their ankles.
Hanako giggled. "I don't know, I've been too nervous."
Koko bounced around the circle. "Let me listen! Let me listen!"
Baku held Hanako in a tight hug, then panicked and let go. "When are you having her?"
Aneko snapped, "How do you know it's not a him?!"
Hanako ignored the battle. "Due any day now."
Hoshiko gasped. Baku and Aneko's eyes grew larger than their heads. "WHAT?!"
"I could never get you all in the same room."
Aneko shook her sister's shoulders, tears pouring from her eyes. "Well, don't you worry, Hana-chan, because we're going to stick by you until this little boy-"
Baku interrupted. "Or girl."
"Is born, aren't we?"
The siblings grappled eachother in a group hug, with Koko still trying to see past their calves. They all exited the room together, Hoshiko tapping Cobramaru's arm to follow her. He rolled his eyes and faithfully chased after her, leaving Genkimaru lying on the floor.
Shute couldn't believe it. "Wow! I didn't see that coming!"
Rele's eyes were flat, the anime sign of annoyance, and a vein throbbed in her head. She hit him with the microphone.
