The Gundam Beauty Pageant|
9. And, the winner is...
The Zako stage was open, but empty. A Zako head popped out from the side of the stage.
“Is it clear, zako?”
Another one appeared on top of that one. “I think so.”
Finally, the third one unexpectedly showed up on the OTHER side of the stage. “Let's take our show back, zako-”
A magic circle threw the Zako soldiers off the stage before they could say a word, and Shute, Rele, and Genkimaru hopped onstage with their mics. “Zako Zako Hour!”
“Ladies and gentlemen, the votes have been tallied!” Shute announced.
Rele clenched her fists and scrunched herself up. “And the winner is…”
Genki held up the katakana card. “CAPTAIN GUNDAM!”
Shute and Rele screamed along with the crowd's applause.
“Charon talked to Captain earlier after he'd found out he won,” Shute brought up, pointing to the Zako screen. “Let's hear what he has to say!”
“Captain Gundam, how does it feel to be voted Most Sexy Gundam in Show?”
Captain couldn't make eye contact with Charon; he was too busy blushing and staring at the floor. He couldn't look to anyone else for encouragement, either. The Neotopian crew was holding up posters and sparklers, celebrating Captain's win.
“Well, I-“ Captain gulped nervously. “I was always aware I was… a little aesthetically pleasing, but I never thought I could win the contest.”
Charon's eyebrow slipped up her forehead. “Well, if you didn't think you could win, who did you think would?”
Captain blushed even brighter and tried to hide his eyes. “I thought girls liked bad boys…”
Charon laughed. “Oh, that's so cute.”
Shute was left speechless. “Wow.”
Rele stepped in. “Charon also interviewed Captain's stylist, the Gundamess Maxine.”
Charon fiddled the microphone in her fingers. “So, Maxine, what do you think your position is on Captain's win?”
Maxine, unlike Captain, proudly raised her head at just the right angle so her head would reflect in the camera lens. “Well, natural beauty can only go so far when you're onstage and lit up for an audience. It's Captain's job to be beautiful. It's my job to make him look better. Now, I'm not saying he wouldn't have won-”
Charon sniffed, “Sure you're not.”
“But the decision would have been much harder.”
Maxine was practically glowing with pride. Charon rolled her eyes.
Genkimaru jumped onto Shute's head so the camera would see him. “And finally, we interviewed one of the loosing parties, Grappler Gouf.”
In an ironic twist, the Dark Axis room was also filled with mecha holding posters, but these read things like “Down with Captain!” and “Recount! RECOUNT!” Grappler stubbornly avoided the camera's gaze, his arms tightly crossed.
“Um…” Charon felt a little nervous around the organic-hating, angry mechas, but tried not to let it show. “So, I guess you're not too happy.”
“It's unfair. Bet the judges are all organics. I bet that Melady chick wasn't on the judging panel!” Grappler pointed at Charon, making her jump. “She would've forced them all to vote for me!”
“OKAY! That's enough, Grappler!” Charon backed away slowly. “Mel, turn the camera off. HELP!”
“Thankfully, our host still has all five of her limbs,” Genkimaru stated.
A question mark appeared above Rele's head. “Five?”
“THE TAIL COUNTS!” came a scream from backstage.
Shute placed himself between the audience and the others. “Okay, everyone, for the future of the fandom-”
The audience cheered to the Zako's cadence, “GUNDAM-MANI-AC, YEAH!”
