(Long Household- 2:03 AM)
Zakkary hadn't returned homes after he'd disappeared from the skate park. Tora and Naomi were in the living room, awaiting their son's returns. Kenshin was there too, but he had an angry look on his face instead of a worried one. Zamar had been told to go to bed, that everything would be alright, but he hadn't listened. He was currently sitting by the top of the stairs, close enough to see the door, but far enough in the shadows so no one could see him. Zakkary had never done this before and Zamar, like the rest of the family, was worried.
Suddenly Zamar saw Kenshin going for the door, so he moved further into the shadows so as not to get caught. Kenshin stopped with one hand on the knob, Zamar held his breath. “Go to bed Zamar. I'm going to find your brother now.” He said sternly, alerting Tora and Naomi that their other son was still awake. Quickly Zamar moved to his room and closed the door, locking it behind him. Nothing ever escaped Kenshin's eye when he was mad.
Zamar sighed and walked over to his bed that was set up against the far wall in a corner of his room. He lay there, thinking about what Zakkary had said at the lounge to that kid and how he'd looked when he'd ran off. Then he touched his black eye only accomplishing to make the injury sting again. He'd known his brother could hit hard, but Zakkary had never hit him that hard. It wasn't really like his brother to lose it like that, but he had so now he was gonna have to pay for his actions.
“Just hope Kenshin is in a good mood when he finds Zakkary or he might end up worse then me.” Zamar whispered, touching his black eye again, making it throb even more.
(Long Household- 6:23 AM)
The house was totally silent, nothing within seemed to move or even breath. The slamming of the front door and shouting voices interrupted this silence. The sudden change in volume jerked Zamar awake and fell off the side of his bed. Outside his door he heard footsteps followed by another door slamming, most likely Zakkary's. Kenshin was obviously right behind him because he was still shouting at him through his door.
Zamar moved to his closet and pulled out a pair of dark blue jeans and one of his black shirts. Once dressed he opened his door and quickly moved to the stairs, sliding down the straight banister. His mother and father were sitting in the kitchen and when he walked over to the fridge Kenshin walked in too.
“I can't believe him. So stupid.” Kenshin muttered, picking up his car keys and saying good-bye to the rest of his family. They listened for the front door to slam shut and once it did Zamar was the first one upstairs to talk to Zakkary, not the Tora or Naomi really made a move to get upstairs first.
“Hey Zakkary it's me.” Zamar paused and waited to see if his brother would open the door. He didn't. “Come on man let me in.” he said a little louder, still no reply. Zamar tried the door handle, it was locked. “Zakkary I just wanna talk. What happened yesterday and why didn't you come home?”
Still Zamar received no reply. He sighed and walked back downstairs and into the kitchen again. Tora was gone, and Naomi was making breakfast for her family. Zamar sat down at the table and hid his face in his arms. “Don't worry Zamar. Your brother is just going threw a tough time. He should be back to normal soon.” Naomi said, looking over at her son with a heartfelt look on her face.
Zamar ignored her and continued to sulk. Zakkary and him were supposed to be tight; telling each other when something is wrong and helping each other to solve the problem. Never once had they rejected each other like Zakkary was now. “I don't know mom. Zakkary has never done this before. I mean he won't even talk to me.” Zamar said quietly, making it sound like he was just mumbling by the time it reached his mother.
Naomi picked up a plate and walked over next to Zamar. “Like I said before just give your brother time. It's going to be hard for the next couple of days for all of you. Remember that your spirit rituals are coming up and that might be why Zakkary is acting up. It's going to be hard for you guys when you combine with your memory spirits so give your brother some time. He'll come around.” Naomi said, setting Zamar's breakfast down on the table and leaving him alone.
Zamar stared at the food in front of him before pulling it closer and starting to eat. `Maybe she's right. Zakkary should be fine in a couple of days.' Zamar thought. Hopefully by the time the ritual date came he'd be back to normal or there might be complications during the transfer and the worst thing that could happen was complications.
(Long Household- 3:07 PM)
Zamar and Kiyoshi were down in the living room, watching Dragonball GT. All day they'd been waiting for Zakkary to leave his room, but not once had he opened his door. It didn't even sound like he was moving around up there.
Kiyoshi was lying on the floor while Zamar sat upside down on the couch when they heard his door finally open. They waited until Zakkary was coming down the stairs until they turned their attention on him. “Hey Zakkary what…. have … you….” Zamar's voice faded and Kiyoshi's mono-eye widened. Zakkary was wearing black pants with two straps hanging down on each side, (Hot Topic shoppers you know what I'm talking about) and a black hooded jacket with a black shirt beneath it. The two weren't staring at his strange choice in wardrobe however; they were staring at his face and hands. Instead of his skin being white or a light peachy color like it usually was it was a dead grayish, pale color. His eyes were framed by dark black symbols and the two could also make out more designs on his hands, most likely extending all the way up his arms.
Both Zamar and Kiyoshi were staring, wide eyed and mouth a gape. “Zakkary…what did you do to your face!?” Zamar shouted, standing up and jumping in front of his brother. He received no verbal answer, but Zakkary did glare at him. His red eyes were glowing again, but it was stronger and steadier then before.
Naomi suddenly appeared in the room and when she saw Zakkary her face became ghost white. Zakkary glanced at her before walking out the door and slamming it behind him. “Zamar…. don't let…him leave.” Naomi said breathlessly, sounding like she'd just run 5 miles. Zamar ran to the door and opened it to catch Zakkary only to see him disappearing around a corner.
“Damn. Already gone.”
“Zamar we have to go after him.” Kiyoshi said quickly, pushing past Zamar and running to his bike.
“But-” Zamar started, before Kiyoshi interrupted him.
“Your mom is contacting Tora and Kenshin. Whatever's going on it's big so we have to help out. Our ceremony is in two days remember and if there's something wrong with him we need to fix it so his memory spirit can align properly with his current memories. You know what could happen if they don't come into the proper alignment.” Kiyoshi said, jumping onto his bike. Zamar took only another 3 seconds to stand in silence before running over and jumping on the back of Kiyoshi's bike, soon they were out of their neighborhood and heading off in the direction Zakkary had gone in some minutes ago.
“So you have any idea where he might be going Kiyoshi?” Zamar shouted.
“Well yes. I believe he's heading out to the new trails we scouted early. I checked my extra map. It seems that when we separated Zakkary went out towards the mountains,” Kiyoshi said handing a small hand held computer to Zamar. He took it in one hand and Kiyoshi quickly turned back around. Zamar zoomed in on Zakkary's scouted areas that lead all the way to the mountain's boarder and beyond. “Looks like he went into them too. Whatever happened to him happened between the time we separated and rejoined at the lounge.”
“And you think he'll go back to wherever it is the problem first appeared; you think he's heading back into the mountains?” Zamar asked. Kiyoshi didn't answer so Zamar took that as a yes. “Right then. So we're heading back to the park. Hope Zakkary doesn't scare everyone off.”
Unfortunately by the time the two arrived the whole place was dissertated. “So much for him not scaring everyone away.” Kiyoshi shouted to Zamar who was searching the lounge. He knew there was someone here, but he just couldn't-
“Zamar!” Kiyoshi shouted, running into the lounge. Zamar was on the floor, breathing hard. Behind a knocked over table Kiyoshi spied two zakos, huddled together and shacking badly. Kiyoshi let out a sigh of relief and kneeled down next the zakos. “Are you guys okay?” he asked softly. Both stared at him before nodding. At that point Zamar had shakily rose to his feet and now stood by Kiyoshi.
“Tell me…did Zakkary do this?” Zamar asked as quietly as Kiyoshi had. Once again the two nodded. Kiyoshi nodded too, stood up and walked back outside. Zamar ran to their storage area and took inventory on what was there. “Everything's present, but Zakkary's bike.” Zamar shouted.
Outside Kiyoshi was looking around for any other signs of life, his sunglasses glinting in the afternoon light. When Zamar appeared on his own bike he gave up the search and they both headed off towards the mountains.
Later Tora, Naomi, and Kenshin arrived at the park and had found the zakos in the lounge. They only asked them one question before Naomi and Kenshin carried them outside while Tora searched for the others. “I can't believe this is happening. How could Zakkary do this and only two days before the ceremony?!” Tora shouted in anger.
Kenshin put a hand on his father's shoulder and said, “I don't think it's Zakkary who's doing this.”
