Serious Announcement #2 Fri Apr 01 Pluto
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Notice the number at the bottom of the Bulletin Board systems. At the time of
posting it's 60.7%
This is not very far far from the value where the boards break (they can't
actually get to 100%, due to hard limitations of PennMUSH other than the
algorithmic limitation). I will be logging on early tomorrow morning to try to
clean out some old posts in preperation for the new posts of the day, but if
the boards happen to explode before then, you'll only have yourselves to
blame. ;-)

My Reviews Sat Apr 02 Saturn
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thank you all for the number of good reviews. It feels good to be
appreciated. :D And I also thank those who were patient during that time of
family crisis when I was not present. You guys are great, and you should all
know that serving such a great playerbase is what drives admin to be the best
they can be. There was, however, two reviews that concerned me.
They voiced their intimidation and wariness to approach me about
matters because of my idleness and my scarcity of conversation on chan. I'm
not sure how many more people feel this way that did not review me, but to
them I say... please don't. I don't want to come across as distant at all! I'm
very approachable with anything, and when I'm 'idle' I'm really not. I'm
usually at my desk reading for school right in front of the computer, and if
you page me, it sends out a rather loud +beep. :D
The only time I'm truely idle and away is when I set myself hidden from
youz shmucks. :) Also, the reason I'm not much of a talker is because I'm very
busy IRL and take priority in my admin work first before my own RP and
socialization. That said, I /do/ have characters here despite what some of you
believe, I just try to keep them discrete and incognito from association with
admin. :D

Reminder: Repair times Sat Apr 02 Gemma
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Reminder.
If you are "Compromised" in a combat, you may not do a full-repair with an
R-chamber and go back out to combat the same day.
If you have taken fifty percent damage or more, once you leave combat, you may
not join combat for two days, meaning the remainder of that day you are
injured, plus the following day.
If you are KOed or knocked unconscious, no combat for three days.
No Combat does not mean No RP, it just means no combat.
"Finishing" or "leaving" combat happens when you have been hit with a full Heal
or Robotics fix, indicating you are down for repairs, or, when you enter a
repair chamber. Jury-rigs during combat are still allowable.
These are the most forgiving combat heal times M3 has ever used, in contrast
with the past when it was five days minimum out of combat after a KO. Please
don't abuse them.

Additional Sat Apr 02 Gemma
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Cinnamon's Aid counts as a jury-rig if the fighter was merely "injured," and
the fighter that was aided can re-enter combat. However, it counts as a
"full-repair" if the fighter was knocked unconcious, and in that case the
repair time still applies.

TP Suggestions Sun Apr 03 Gemma
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Not to disappoint, but I'm considering removing the TP Suggestions board.
My rationale: I've never seen a board like this, on any MU*, actually gather up
any TP Suggestions the staff actually went on to use. People read them, go,
'Oh that's interesting,' and then they move on. As such, the board is sort of
a waste of space. The well-meaning intent, I think, is to take TP planning out
of the hands of staff and share it with players, but, even a 'TP Suggestions
Machine' where suggestions are anonymous and player-submitted has not proven
terribly useful.
I am, therefore, considering replacing the board with something I think we DO
need, which would be a Scene Announcements board with a slightly shorter
timeout than TP Suggestions. The idea here is that when people are announcing
scenes, they sometimes get lost in the spam of the Public board, and players
have just as much a reason to announce planned scenes as the admin do. The
caveat would be that everyone would have to be on the board, since, both
players AND admin would be using it to announce planned scenes, and we don't
want people to cry foul if they were not aware that a TP scene of some import
was being held on such and such a day.
Before I make a change like that I'd appriciate having some feedback. Since our
own BBoard system is already getting kind of stuffed, don't make a post about
this unless you have a lengthy tirade of import--in that case, put it on the
Endless board so it'll time out in a reasonable amount of time. Or, you can
@mail me your opinion or sneak it into my review...all is well.
For the record, if there is a player-run TP that you are seriously interested
in running, the best way to make that a reality is to contact the involved
faction-staffers, and usually the staffer(s) most involved in running the
current TPs. (Right now, that is me and Pluto.) This staff, I feel, is better
at cross-communication than larger M3 staffs have been in the past, so your
idea won't get lost.

Making Changes to RM FCs Mon Apr 04 Gemma
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I get this question a lot.
Here's my policy regarding making changes to any Master FC you apply for.
1. You may feel free to apply for a new profile, quote and note, on your
initial application. I may or may not approve the new profile. If the new
profile is only minor tweaks to the current one, it is more likely to get
easily approved. If you take the FC in a totally opposite direction, I will
look at your profile with more scrutiny. However, since Robot Masters can be
reprogrammed, changing personality somewhat is not usually an issue. You may
begin RPing the new profile right away. However, I will not usually fix the
new profile in, until you have played the character for a month or more.
2. You /may not/ apply for /any/ new attacks or abilities on your initial app
for a Robot Master. You must wait until you have played your Robot Master for
at least a month before requesting new attacks. You must have played your
Robot Master /at least/ a month before asking for abilities, and in most cases
of the latter I will ask you to justify the ability heavily and provide RP to
back up your learning the ability or having it installed.
I wait a month to make ANY changes on an apped Robot Master. Why do I do this?
Because I have gotten upset in the past when people have apped a Robot Master,
requested extensive changes, but then dropped him almost immediately. As such,
there are no exceptions to my one-month-wait policy.
Remember that Robot Masters are FCs, also. They are fun, simple, "starter"
characters for many players, but I don't have patience for people who app them
just to throw them away after a month or two.
The one-month wait policy is my Robot Master policy. It may or may NOT apply to
FCs under the jurisdiction of other staffers.

Neo Arcadia's New Guardian! Tue Apr 05 Io
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It took him five long years of blood, sweat, toil, and patriotism towards the
downfall of robots. Neo Arcadia has finally chosen to recognize this and
awarded him the highest honor.
His name was Bradley Eildath. He is known as this no more.
Thanks to the additional e-human gene therapy and his brand new Guardian Armor,
he has now undergone the code name Archbaker Cookie. As the new Guardian head
of the cooking division 'Beige Rollingpin,' his greatest cause to the
liberation of the human race is that his Guardian armor is in fact edible and
very tasty. (Mana Pixie was considered, but discarded after it was decided
that it was not enough to quell unrest during snacktime.)
Congratulations, Bradley Eildath, for reaching 100 cookies! Oh, he's also not
really a Guardian yet. Nor is there an actual Beige Rollingpin division.
But Brad still has a hundred cookies. Can you go for a hundred more? Eating
your imaginary Guardian armor doesn't count.

Redips especially, make sure you include Pluto in on your questions. Still
include me--I still admin that fac--but Pluto is better able to answer actual

From the Deathcat's Desk Sat Apr 09 Pluto
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Memo to All Players
If possible, please remove the following phrase from your vocabulary: Weakness
Raping
This does not happen. There is no such thing. A character's weakness is an IC
flaw in their defence. If some enemy has a way to figure out that what that
flaw is, which should be fairly easy just by observing how some attacks do
more damage than others, they would logically use that information to their
advantage. Particularly with the new balancing system that lessens the effect
of common weaknesses, there is no legitimate grounds to complain about your
weakness being used as exactly what it is.
The /only/ potential abuse is not that weaknesses are used, but that a
character gives themselves attacks of extra elements to be able to hit more
weakness than they should really be able to. It is each player's
responsability to avoid doing this when they apply for a character or, more
relevantly, for new attacks. It is also the responsability of the
administration to make sure it doesn't happen. If a character has an attack
that matches someone's weakness, though, they have every right to use it, and
cerainly no obligation to avoid it.

The scene opens in a women's restroom. Some femme Reploids are milling around
in the background, talking to each other. A sink is running, unattended, in
the foreground.
From the right side of the screen, MARINO walks up to the sink and looks at it.
"Hey, look at this," she directs to the room. "This is really inappropriate."
From the background, CINNAMON moves to MARINO's left (slowly, with her mincing
steps) and also looks at the sink. "Oh no! Look at that! I can't believe
someone did that!"
Entering from the right shortly afterward is NANA, who paces around behind
Marino and looks over her should at the sink. "That is *so* uncool. Can you
believe it?" NANA, MARINO and CINNAMON begin a vigorous conversation about the
sink which becomes incoherent babble because of the crosstalk.
ROLL, entering from the right, regards the group, looks at the sink, then
closes the spigot to shut it off. MARINO, CINNAMON and NANA make eye contact
with ROLL, who looks at them for a moment, then heads into the background.
Voice over by LEO: "Sometimes talking about a problem isn't enough. Take a
stand. Take action. Confront your problems."
Voice over by Roll: "Confrontation is my anti-drug."

On Armor Modes Sat Apr 16 Mesarthim
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There has been a little confusion lately about the general rules of thumb about
armor modes. Most of this is rule-of-thumb, rather than formal policy, because
there will always be special cases. However, they will be rare.
An armor mode is called for and is explicitly allowed in the following cases:
-Substantially different modes, both combat-capable, whether the difference is
in statistics, abilities, attack lists, or a combination of the two. (For
instance, a reploid with a high-speed "interceptor" form with Flight and a
high Velocity, and a ground attack mode lacking Flight and having a higher
FRP.)
-Humans with Power Armor. These are the only exceptions to the general rule
against unarmored mode, and are only because humans generally do not live in
their Power Armor. A robot or combat-enhanced cyborg will generally have at
least some of their combat capacity, even if they aren't carrying their
weapons with them at the time; this is best represented by not using the
relevant attacks.
An armor mode is not called for in the following cases:
-An "unarmored" mode, built on a much lower CST, with the exception of humans
with Power Armor. Most robots and combat-capable cyborgs have the majority of
their equipment on-board.
-Minor appearance changes, variances in abilities, or attack lists. With the
exception of Deflect, the "combat" abilities can all be turned on and off.
Attack list questions will vary.
Please keep these in mind when you write your applications.

Decontaminate Informate Sun Apr 17 Mesarthim
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Just as a note, since it's come up.
Decontamination is something which requires a coded ability to do. It is a
skill, rather than something which can be done simply with equipment. A
certain amount of handwaving regarding standard virus-checking and early
decontamination as part of a post-battle situation is OK; most factions and
numerous public facilities are capable of doing it, although if you are an
unaffiliated civilian, it might get pricey.
If you have been seriously infected, whether due to an explicit act of a
Maverick or extended exposure to same, it should be RPed out if possible.
Remember that it is not an instantaneous thing, due to the perniciously
unpredictable nature of the reploid mind.
Virus scans are much simpler to do, however, and are available for free or a
nominal fee in most civilized regions, in the interest of maintaining public
order. However, equipment which itself becomes infected can be unreliable.

Nevertheless, please remember to 'sell' couend, even if you decide to stay

I saw a lot of people lamenting that WilyWorld wasn't ever used, or, more

I also saw a lot of Robot Masters complaining that they had no earth-side

Disney Universe is now on the grid. It's always been part of theme, and now
there are rooms for it. Just head toward Florida, or teleport in.
Like San An, DU is a no-combat area. To learn more about DU, read the posts I'm

Clarification on Closing Wed Apr 20 Mesarthim
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When a character is "closing", it means that there is a window of time in which
you can send in apps which will be considered along with the first app to come
in. This is to allow some competition for feature characters.
When a character is "closed", applications after that day (usually around 6 PM
that day, more or less; certainly by the end of it) will not be accepted.
The character will be handed out at a point after this. If there's just one
app, it can be almost immediately; if there's a few of them, it can take a day
or two to consider, especially for Semi-Essential or Essential Feature
Characters. It generally is fairly soon, but we do not hand out the character
just after midnight on the day in question. This is just a clarification, as
we have had some minor confusion about the process pop up.
Trust the process. It is your friend.

Radio Reminder Thu Apr 21 Pluto
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A while ago, I posted a reminder concerning the use of the radio system, both
broadband and tightbeam frequencies. Specifically, IC Actions will lead to IC
Consequences, even over the radio. When someone makes a connection with
another person over the radio, either positive or negative, that person then
has an obligation to make themself available for "face to face" RP with the
other person if they so request.
As an addendum to this, the same policy applies to your NPCs. Additionally,
since NPCs aren't applied for except in cases where they're clearly an
accessory to the character concept such as Rush, Treble, or the SPIRIT drones,
they don't have the protection of condeath/coninfect to the same degree that
PCs do.
This has been Pluto's helpful reminder of the day. Game on.

Antisocial Behavior Fri Apr 22 Arcturus
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hello, M3. I am afraid I must be negative for a moment, which is unfortunate,
because I don't like being negative.
There have been some general behavioral trends running through here recently
that have made me very unhappy. We (meaning general staff opinion) are
generally not pleased with misc. antisocial behaviors. As such: The List.
I: Statistical Whining. For the following reasons, the following -things- are
generally Bothersome:
A: Complaining about your inability to reverse-engineer things; we feel that,
while you may certainly -attempt- to reverse-engineer things from your
experiences, that is an Optional Track and does not need to be supported by
the devs.
B: Complaining aggressively about your stats. For one, you are more than a stat
block; for another, you are (hopefully) statted to-concept, and will as such
win or lose to-concept. I will admit I have done this (and then regretted it a
little later).
C: Complaining about how 'such and such archetype is nerfed' See above.
2: Interpretational Whining. That is to say, whining about someone else's
interpretation of a character, FC- or OC-wise.
A: 'This FC should behave like this'. This is not really intelligent discourse
from a third-party perspective unless Dr. Light is proposing genocide or Vile
is petting puppy dogs without an ulterior motive.
B: 'According to theme...'. Yes, it would be nice if the NPC and PC populations
were generally in line with one another; however, they are not, and as such
you cannot expect them to be. PCs are PCs, let them be who they want to be.
3: The 'I'll App For Everything-- The Worst They Can Do Is Say No' principle.
A: This is getting increasingly common from both a coded and uncoded
perspective; apping for A Bunch Of Tens with minimal justification, All The
Abilities In A Given Field, etc. are almost guaranteed to be turned down.
Going for All Of It with the minimum effort you think is necessary tends to
increase staff workload and frustration.
I love M3. But I'd like to see you guys behave a little better sometimes.
Continue on, men-- there's a world out there.

When the family assembled for Sunday dinner
Their minds made up that they wouldn't get thinner on
Argentine joint, fresh cookies and greens
Then the cook would appear from behind the scenes
And say in a voice that was broken with sorrow
"I'm afraid you must wait and have dinner tomorrow
The cookies have gone from the oven like that!"
Then the family would say, "It's that horrible - ROBOT!"
It was Gemini Man or Gemini Man!"
And most of the time they left it at that
They'd go through the house like a hurricane
And no sober person could take his oath
Was it Gemini Man or Gemini Man?
Or could you have sworn that it mightn't be both?
Gemini Man has stolen eight hundred +cookies. If you hit him hard
