Epilogue  2001.12.24 - 2002.1.6

Technically, the trek is over, but we still have the services of the gas-swilling beast for another week. It sits in our driveway for the next couple days. (Great for fuel economy!)

 Xmas time.

A few days at home are followed by a trip to my mother's house, up by Lake Ontario. The stuff hauler is complaining about neglect. Sheesh, it can't even go 6,000 miles without whining.

So we stop in a service center on the way. An ad catches my eye.
Well, the river was right in front of my house, and there were a lot of woods between here & there, so that just leaves rocks, canyons, gorges, mountains.... Maybe I'll rethink this trip.

But we make it. And find snow. (Not that it's surprising. Lake Ontario = snow, and lots of it.)
It is surprising that there's so little. After all, it's almost January.

On my mother's fridge is a precis of our trip.

And so the trip ends, with still no snow or indeed any real precipitation at home. We had, of course, rented the thirsty truck because it had 4 wheel drive. And because our car has nearly 200,000 miles on it.

Finally, on the 6th of January, 2002 the snow comes. And comes. All of the snow has seemingly been pent up and appears at once. In fact, I think they even imported some more to make up for the drought.
It kept snowing after this picture.

  We're back.
