49. It is finished Charon stood on the not-often-used stage for the last time, trying to usher the crowd into silence. “Well, ladies and gentlemen, it's been a lot of fun and a bunch more chapters, but the Beauty Pageant is finally over. And that can only mean one thing… “It's time to award the Best In Show!” The crowd roared. The Gundams appeared behind Charon, all lined up onstage and all of them beaming with pride. Charon held up a card. “And the winner is…” She shook her head and smiled. “It's tie between Captain Gundam and Zero, the Winged Knight!” Zero and Captain, on some weird whim, both gasped, looked at each other, and flew into a bear hug while the others cheered. Guneagle thumped Captain's back apologetically, and Gundiver whistled his appreciation. Aneko and Bakunetsumaru both lunged at Zero and tackled him to the ground, laughing all the while. Charon separated them from the others and held the microphone to their faces. “What's it feel like, guys?” Zero and Captain both started talking at the same time, their collected speech forming a surprised, emotional babble. This continued for a few seconds- “Stop!” Zero held up his hand. “Captain, you talk first!” “No, you go ahead,” Captain politely offered. “You talk first!” The knight playfully shoved his Neotopia friend. “I said so!” Captain shoved back, and the two laughed. Charon twitched her neck, popping a crick out of her spine, and asked, “Well, you've just won the honor of winning a fanfiction beauty pageant. What are you gonna do now?” Zero and Captain shared a look. “I think…” Captain admitted, “I'm ready to just go home.” “Hmm…” Charon's face suddenly seemed… mysterious. “Home. The vacation from the vacation. What about the other guys? You mechas ready to go home too?” The other rumbled in agreement. Charon smiled. “And that's the secret word!” Charon pointed the microphone to the back stage. “Ladies and gentlemen, before we send you home, the Gundams have a little surprise planned out for you! HIT IT!” &&& The wall pulled away to a tropical beach! Apparently, the Mary Sue inhibitor had been turned off for one last romp in over-indulgence. Palm tree sprouted out of huge mounds of sand, and the crystal blue water gushed over the shore. Melady popped out of a sand dune, brandishing large mallets and quickly making an impromptu steel drum out of several handy Zakos. Talec and Fenn were behind her, keeping beat with a set of drums, and Cybertoy and SilverBellsAbove whipped out guitars and began to play. Captain: Even when I'm weary, and I just can't carry on And the world seems like an endless debt for me to pay- Zero and Baku strode up to either side of their friend. Captain, Zero, and Baku: Even when the neon seems to shine more than the sun And the secret place I live it feels so far away- The other Gundams (and psuedo-Gundams and humans and even a few authors) took their place behind the Gundam Force. Mechas: Still I've got a ticket for a magic holiday, And it's always booked and ready come what may! Cybertoy flipped the hood off of his head. Cybertoy: Woah-oah. TDAT slammed her fingers down on a keyboard. Mechas: Sweet vacation! Recreation! Destination home! Destroyer Dom bounced to the front of the crowd, his face quickly filling up the “camera”. Dom: My friends will take me! TDAT got bumped out of the way by Kichiko, who hit the same chord. Mechas: Sweet vacation! Recreation! Destination home! Captain: My friends will take me home! Melanie blew a soft, airy tune on a flute. She was quickly spooked off of her spot by a wailing saxophone solo from Deathscythe. The Gundams frolicked while they could. Cobramaru stole Hoshiko's upper armor while she wasn't looking and made her chase after him. Genkimaru and Daishogun buried Kibaomaru in a sandcastle remarkably like his own. Gundiver leaped out of the sea like a dolphin, Guneagle trying valiantly to take him. Zapper (somehow) found a rope swing and did a bad impression of Tarzan that turned into a great impression of George of the Jungle when he rammed face-first into a coconut palm, making several coconuts fall on Talgeese's head. Grappler and Zapper, and after a quick arm wave, Killer Kath all locked shoulders for a solo. Grappler, Zapper, and Killer: Still I've got a ticket for a magic holiday, And it's always booked and ready, come what may! Gunpanzer and Britainmaru popped up behind them. Gunny and Britty: Woah-oah. The Gundams all piled together, arms around each other playfully. Mechas: Sweet vacation! The Gundamaniacs joined whatever free arms they could spare. Mechas and Authors: Recreation! Destination home! Bakunetsumaru fell back upon a cushion of sisters (and one fresh niece and a brother-in-law). Baku: My friends will take me! Mechas and Authors: Sweet vacation! Recreation! Destination home! Zero finally pulled Deathscythe and Talgeese into a hug himself, most feelings of animosity gone now that they were about to leave. Zero: My friends can take me! Mechas and Authors: Sweet vacation! Recreation! Destination- Captain discreetly took Madnug's hand. Shute slapped his hand over the two Gundams, sealing their friendship. Mechas: Home! Captain: My friends can take me- They all came together for one last, beautiful harmony. All: Home! YEAH! | |
